Conduct

Photographs on mylar, hazard tape, audio recording

“Conduct” was installed at 2177 E. 6th Ave, Vancouver, as a part of the public exhibition Private Addresses. Photographs on mylar were backlit by the interior lights of this private home, and speakers near the sidewalk broadcast a low volume audio loop. In the sound recording a woman’s voice relayed concepts of risk and safety in public space by speculating on the odds of being hit by lightning.

A project by the Association for Noncommercial Culture, Private Addresses had two components; works produced by artists for outdoor residential locations, primarily front yards; and sites where residents had made unconventional/innovative use of their house facades or yards. Overall, the objective of the Association for Noncommercial Culture was to stimulate an awareness of residential neighbourhoods as sites of potential and ongoing political, philosophical and cultural activity.
